TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), a culture-based recreational park in East Jakarta, recorded 40,000 visitors on New Year's Eve 2024. The park’s management spokesperson, Novera Mayang Sari, said the number was double the average daily visit.
“On average, there were about 20,000 visitors per day,” she told Tempo on Monday, January 1, 2024, adding that the 40,000 visitors hailed from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek), as well as other regions and abroad.
“This morning, we welcomed visitors from Salatiga, many from abroad,” she said.
At the New Year's Eve celebration, the park presented various attractions, including fireworks parties, music performances, culinary festivals, cultural arts performances, and wayang kulit or traditional shadow puppet shows led by puppeteer Ki Sri Susilo Tengkleng.
“Many visitors came from regions [other than Greater Jakarta] and brought mats to watch shadow puppets all night long,” Mayang said.
On the last holiday of the new year, January 1, at least 23,000 people visited TMII and started arriving in the morning.
TMII also provided a series of events on January 1, such as a culinary festival, workshops, bazaars, and arts and cultural performances.
“Art and cultural performances were held at the Bengkulu Pavilion, South Kalimantan Pavilion, Jakarta Pavilion, Riau Pavilion, and Lampung Pavilion,” Mayang said, ensuring that visitors could enjoy all performances at TMII free of charge.
