Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Refused Entry to 1,169 Foreigners in 2023; Mostly Indians

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's Class I Immigration Office rejected 1,169 foreign nationals from entering Indonesia throughout 2023. Most of them are Indian nationals with 271 people.

"Most of them were rejected because their aims and objectives for coming to Indonesia were unclear," the Immigration Office chief, Subki Miuldi, said on December 28.

Data from the Immigration Office showed that 425 of the foreign nationals had no clear reason for coming to Indonesia. The rest were refused entry due to violating Indonesian immigration rules, including having passports with a validity period of less than 6 months, not having enough money to live while in Indonesia, and because they were previously refused entries in other nations.

Subki said that refusing entry of foreign nationals who do not meet immigration requirements is part of their efforts to improve security and law enforcement functions.

The Soekarno-Hatta Immigration also postponed the departure of 6,451 Indonesians suspected of going abroad to find jobs non-procedurally, deported 201 foreign nationals to their home countries, and acted upon seven cases of immigration crimes.
