TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China was Indonesia's largest non-oil and gas export destination in November 2023, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

"In November 2023, China received 5.41 billion US dollars in non-oil and gas exports, followed by India at US$2.01 billion and the US at US$1.94 billion, and the contribution of the three export values reached 45.16 percent," deputy for distribution statistics and services at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, said in Jakarta on Friday.

China was Indonesia's leading export destination in the January–November 2023 period, with the total value of shipments reaching US$56.56 billion, accounting for 25.49 percent of the total non-oil and gas exports.

The main commodities exported to China during the period were iron/steel, lignite, and coal.

In January–November, the United States and India had the most significant share of non-oil and gas exports, valued at US$21.17 billion (or 9.54 percent of the total exports) and US$18.45 billion (8.31 percent), respectively.

Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports to ASEAN nations and the European Union (27 countries) in November were recorded at US$3.78 billion and US$1.29 billion, respectively.

In January–November, non-oil and gas exports to the ASEAN region were valued at US$41.20 billion, or 18.56 percent of the total exports, and the European Union US$15.17 billion, or 6.84 percent of the total exports.

Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, said that one of the efforts that can be made to increase trade with China is to overcome trade barriers.

Indonesia and China can also open wider market access for each other, he added.

This needs to be done so that business actors, especially Indonesian small and medium enterprises, can easily export their products to China, he said.
