TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is among the top 10 on the list of countries with the best cuisine in 2023, according to TasteAtlas.
The global food-hunting site recently released its annual ranking of the best cuisines, dishes, food cities, food products, and ingredients, as well as legendary restaurants and cookbooks from all over the country.
There were 395,205 (271,819 valid) dish ratings and 115,660 (80,863 valid) food product ratings recorded.
TasteAtlas compiled the list of the top 50 food items for each cuisine based on these ratings, and the best-rated cuisines in the world based on the average ratings of each country's top-rated meals and food items.
Indonesia 6th best cuisine country
Indonesia is ranked sixth on the list of countries with the best cuisine in the world. The archipelago is known for its diverse culinary delights that are rich in flavor with a blend of spices, textures, and appetizing aromas, making it a popular choice among food enthusiasts worldwide.
Meanwhile, the top-ranked country with the best cuisine in the world is Italy, followed by Japan. Both countries have the same average star rating. However, Italy receives the highest ranking again for its best-rated dish - pizza.
Out of 100 countries, here is the list of the top 10 countries with the best cuisine in the world.

Apart from Indonesia, the list also includes other Southeast Asian countries. They are Thailand (17th position), Vietnam (22nd position), Malaysia (31st position), the Philippines (33rd position), Singapore (56th position), Laos (86th position), and Myanmar (93rd position).
Best dishes in the world
TasteAtlas also released a list of the top 100 best dishes in the world, with Brazilian cutlet Picanha taking the top spot, followed by Malaysian Roti Canai and Thai stir-fry Phat Kaphrao. Meanwhile, Indonesian Pempek is ranked 13th.
