TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto ensured the continuity of the Pre-Employment Card (Kartu Prakerja) in 2024. The minister also claimed the program has been included in the next year's State Budget Plan.
"This program is mainly financed by the government and yearly government's agenda," he said on Tuesday in Solo.
Airlangga did not dive deeper into numbers. However, he said that the continuity of the Pre-Employment Card program could be attributed to the sure benefits reaped by the participants and the training agencies.
"So far, the Pre-Employment Card has been enjoyed by more than 17 million participants and the offline system has been participated by more than 1 million people," he said.
Therefore, he believed that the Pre-Employment Card is a much-needed program to adjust between formal education and what is required of the employment sector.
"Surely this program is needed to adjust between education and employment opportunities, retraining, and reskilling. Several other countries have formed ministries to handle reskilling and long life learning," he said.
However, when asked about the guarantee of whether or not this program will be sustained in the future, Airlangga pinned it on the electoral results.
On the other hand, previous participants of this program expressed their hope that the Pre-Employment Card will be sustained going forward, as stated by Sri Ismiatun from LKP Ismia Karanganyar, who had accessed this program in 2022 and 2023.
"Praise be to God, in 2022, at least 31,000 participants enrolled in this program while this year saw more or less 3,000 to 5,000 participants," she said.
