TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy, through the Pre-Employment Card Program, held The Inclusive Lifelong Learning Conference (ILLC) in Bali. During the conference, UNESCO launched the lifelong learning global campaign, #ImALifelongLearner, in partnership with Indonesia.
This global initiative is expected to unite learners around the world to continue learning and inspire others to take united steps toward their own goals. "Lifelong learning is important for everyone. This program could be a crucial instrument to empower people around the world, especially against climate change, demographic shifts, and the volatility of the labor market," Airlangga Hartarto, the Minister of Economic Affairs stated on Monday, July 3, 2023.
The appointment of Indonesia as the pioneer of this global campaign is in line with the government's commitment to realize the Sustainable Development Goals accelerated in the Pre-Employment Card Program.
According to Airlangga, this program also proves the government's commitment towards the lifelong learning campaign. "Several independent surveys show that this program proves beneficial," he stated. One of which is the increase of 12 percent of employed people.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Education, Stefania Gianinni said that this campaign requires collaboration. To establish a social contract on education with lifelong learning at the center of it, cooperation from all parties is needed. "We have to develop inclusive regulations supported by an adequate budgeting and applying this program to empower people to learn which surpasses all backgrounds and ages," Gianinni said.
