TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Urban Mobility of the IKN Authority, Resdiansyah or Dian, stated that the Nusantara State Capital or IKN project in East Kalimantan will enact urban mobility as its backbone. Transportation in IKN, he said, is intertwined with land use and transport interaction.
"The backbone of new area development is transportation," he said in South Jakarta on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023.
IKN is being built employing the 10-minute city concept, where the residents can reach every location within 10 minutes. IKN Authority will ensure active mobility in the area such as walking, cycling, and riding public transportation.
Therefore, he added, private vehicles only take up 20 percent of the total transportation in IKN with 80 percent of public transportation. "That is the mandate of President [Joko Widodo]," Dian said.
Additionally, the authority will control the volume of private vehicles to stay within the 20 percent limit by using an intelligent transport system. When that limit is reached, private vehicles are no longer allowed to enter IKN, especially the core governmental area (IKPP). The government will provide a parking area with the rest of the commute using public transportation.
Government officials will also use public transportation, Dian said, except for official state vehicles. "There will be separate regulation for it," he concluded.
