TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has filed a complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the European Union for imposing anti-dumping duties on stainless steel cold-rolled flat or SSCRF. The information was relayed by Special Staff to the Minister of Trade for International Agreements Bara Krishna Hasibuan.

“This is our third case. They imposed additional import duties on the EU," he said in Timika, Central Papua on Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Previously, the EU also imposed countervailing duty over SSCRF against India and Indonesia, which amounted to 21 percent and 7.5 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the antidumping duty imposed by the EU since 2021 ranges from 10.2 to 31.5 percent.

Indonesia has been accused of receiving subsidies from the Chinese government, Bara said, due to the establishment of Chinese-owned steel companies in the country.

"EU believed that to be unfair practices. Akin to the EU purchasing Chinese products but with the production located in Indonesia, subsidized by the Chinese government. We'll start the process next year, we have delivered the complained officially," he said.

Steel export to Europe is experiencing an increase in demand. However, the imposition of countervailing duties and antidumping duties could result in annual losses for Indonesia amounting to 40 million euros
