TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno recently talked about the economic impact of the Coldplay concert held in Jakarta on November 15.
He said the ministry was still calculating the impact of the concert of the British band led by Chris Martin. However, he believed that with a total of 80,000 concertgoers, there would be an increase of 8,000-10,000 foreign tourist visits.
“The total predicted economic impact could reach US$40-50 million, [which is equivalent to] around Rp750 billion to Rp1 trillion,” Sandiaga said in The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno forum on Monday, November 27.
Apart from that, he pointed out that hotels near the concert venue, which was the Gelora Bung Karno or GBK Stadium, were fully occupied and that products from the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) and the creative economy were also sold out during the gig.
Previous reports also suggested that the state-owned railway operator KAI had recorded a significant spike in train passengers at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, in connection with the most-anticipated concert.
KAI’s spokesperson Joni Martinus said 15,687 passengers of long-distance trains arrived at Gambir Station on November 14 and 15.
“The number increased by 30 percent compared to the previous week’s figure of 12,033 passengers on Nov. 7-8,” Joni said in a statement quoted on Nov. 15, adding that it was thanks to the Coldplay concert in Jakarta.
