TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Agency for International Development (Indonesian AID) provided Rp140.45 billion in grants for 28 global humanitarian aid activities, including for Palestine, in January–October this year, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said on Friday, November 24, 2023.

The funds came from the agency's endowment fund of Rp8 trillion as of October 2023 from investment financing in the state budget, she informed.

"The nominal target for Indonesia AID grant in 2023 is estimated at Rp307.25 billion," she said at a press conference.

The minister informed that the grant to Latin American and Caribbean countries amounted to Rp4.67 billion, Asia Rp21.4 billion, Africa Rp54 billion, the Pacific Rp34.42 billion, and global funds Rp23.45 billion.

The assistance consisted of physical assistance or procurement with a commitment of Rp201.07 billion and capacity-building assistance amounting to Rp86.18 billion, she added.

She said that the physical assistance or procurement covered the purchase of vaccines, provision of fire extinguishers, waste management, renovations, agricultural training centers, hospitals, and control of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Meanwhile, the capacity-building assistance covered information and communication technology training, state civil servant training, educational assistance, family planning, disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation, customs, and the single-window system, she added.

In terms of physical assistance, the minister said that Indonesian AID disbursed 1.5 million vaccine doses worth Rp30.32 billion to Nigeria to vaccinate 750 thousand infants.

This was followed by assistance to Ethiopia, Kenya, and Turkiye of Rp20 billion, she added.

Assistance was provided in the form of emergency food to drought-hit Ethiopia and Indonesian medical equipment and training for the agribusiness sector in Kenya, Indrawati said.

Physical assistance worth Rp31.9 billion in the form of medicines and medical equipment was also dispatched for people in Palestine’s Gaza Strip.

"We just sent aid for Palestine on Wednesday (November 22, 2023)," she said.

In addition, capacity-building assistance of Rp4.07 billion was provided to the Gambia for its agricultural training center revitalization.
