TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and his United States counterpart Lloyd Austin signed a Defense Cooperation Agreement on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting or ADMM-Plus in Jakarta on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Austin said on his official social media X (formerly Twitter) that they signed a historic defense cooperation. “Minister @Prabowo and I just signed a historic Defense Cooperation Arrangement on the margins of the ADMM-Plus here in Jakarta,” he said mentioning Prabowo’s account.
According to him, the deepening US-Indonesian defense relationship is a core part of the two countries’ newly upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Austin referred to the framework of the new US-Indonesia relationship when the two leaders, Joe Biden and Jokowi, met at the White House, in Washington DC, on Monday, November 13.
In a joint statement, the two leaders agreed to elevate their defense partnership through a new Defense Cooperation Arrangement.
However, the details on the military cooperation between the two countries are yet to be disclosed as Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, a spokesperson for Defense Minister Prabowo, has not responded to Tempo's request for further information.
