KPU Announces Three Pairs of Candidates for 2024 Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) has today announced three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates who will be running for the 2024 election. They are Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo - Mahfud Md, and Prabowo Subianto - Gibran Rakabuming.
“The KPU declares that the pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates, Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar, proposed by the political parties of NasDem, the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), has met the requirements,” a KPU commissioner Idham Holik said on Monday, Nov. 13. He also mentioned the other two pairs, namely Ganjar - Mahfud and Prabowo - Gibran.
The KPU has issued Decree No. 1632 of 2023, which announced the result of the closed plenary session that determined the candidate pairs. “After the determination, the KPU will draw the serial numbers for the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs,” Holik added.
The determination of the serial numbers of the candidates is in accordance with Article 235 (2) of the KPU Regulation on Elections.
Holik said it will be held at the KPU Office on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. Jakarta time.
Moreover, the KPU has decided that the campaign period for the presidential and vice presidential candidates will be from November 28, 2023, until February 10, 2024. “It will last for 75 days,” Holik concluded.
