TEMPO.CO, Sleman, Yogyakarta - The government has added more flights and increased the availability of aircraft seats ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, stated Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

"With the increase in the number of flights and the availability of seats, the supply will increase, hence, we expect the price of flight tickets to be stable and affordable in the Christmas and New Year holidays," Uno said on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

He said a number of airlines such as Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Super Air Jet, and Air Asia have added more flights to anticipate the surge of passengers in the year-end holidays.

"New airlines such as Trans Nusa will also start serving tourists' favorite routes at the end of 2023 or 2024," he said.

According to him, many travelers are expected to switch to land transportation due to the high price of airline tickets.

He estimated that about 80 percent of travelers during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays will use land transportation.

"This is an opportunity for several destinations such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, Bromo, Tengger, Semeru, and along Java-Bali (route) because they can be reached by land," he said.

Uno is expecting an increase in the movement of domestic tourists during the holidays and hoped that the target of domestic tourist visits this year will be achieved.

"We also prepare destinations and travel patterns so that the year-end holidays will bring massive tourists," he said.

Earlier, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry said it collaborates with the industry to prepare tour packages for the Christmas and New Year holidays under the domestic travel campaign #DiIndonesiaAja.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Ministry has estimated that there will be 904,496 public transportation passengers during the year-end holiday.
