TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) planned to replicate the Cirata floating solar power plant (PLTS) in other locations. According to the Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi, Indonesia has enormous resources to develop many more floating solar farms.
“We will scale up many reservoir potentials in Indonesia considering that the government has recently been active in building reservoirs and dams,” Yudo said in Purwakarta, West Java, on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the Cirata floating solar power plant in Purwakarta, West Java, on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Yudo explained that two more floating solar farms would be established, namely the Saguling and Singkarak Floating PLTS.
Based on the state electricity giant PLN's business plan for 2021-2030, the Saguling Floating PLTS in West Java will have a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW), while the Singkarak Floating PLTS in West Sumatra will have a capacity of 48 MW.
In addition, the government planned to build five more floating solar farms by 2030. These projects will be constructed in the Wonogiri Reservoir in Central Java (100 MW), the Sutami Reservoir in East Java (122 MW), the Jatiluhur Reservoir in West Java (100 MW), the Mrica Reservoir in West Java (60 MW), and Wonorejo Reservoir in East Java (122 MW).
The ESDM Ministry believed that Indonesia’s potential for floating solar power plants has the potential to generate up to 89.36 gigawatts (GW) of electricity in 295 sites across the archipelago, including 36 lakes with a total capacity of 74.67 GW and 259 dams with a total capacity of 14.7 GW.
