TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas urged regional governments to support the micro-small-medium-enterprises (MSMEs) to conduct a digital transformation. The measure is needed, Zulhas said, due to the number of foreign commodities penetrating the Indonesian market.
"Don't let foreign goods invade Indonesia, [MSMEs] would die out that way," he said in Yogyakarta on Monday, November 6.
According to Zulhas, the digital transformation would also increase exports of local goods to balance the number of imported goods in Indonesia. "The target is also to market local goods abroad," he added.
Zulhas reminded that Indonesia will be trapped in the middle income category if Indonesia markets foreign goods only. The central government is currently trying to control imported goods to ensure local products can also thrive. "We have created a border, such as an import permit," he said.
Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo during a forum with Zulhas in Yogyakarta stated that there are currently 109,637 MSME units in the regency. "We have created various digital platforms for MSMEs in Sleman," Kustini said.
One of these digital platforms is the Sleman Online Permit System or SINOM which facilitates various business permits including the single business number (NIB) for legality purposes.
"Through this platform, MSMEs could process business licenses with ease and efficiency," Kustini concluded.
