Today's Top 3 News: BMKG Forecasts Rainfall in Parts of Greater Jakarta, Jakarta Detects 5 More Monkeypox Cases

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTempo English compiled three popular news today, Thursday, October 26, 2023. Those include the weather forecast today in Greater Jakarta by BMKG, Jakarta detecting more monkeypox cases, and Indonesia's update on the Asian Para Games.

1. BMKG Forecasts Rainfall in Parts of Greater Jakarta

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued today’s weather forecast for Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek. Unlike yesterday’s prediction, there is no chance of rain in the capital city today.

The agency predicted that partly sunny skies will dominate Jakarta’s skyline today. Only South Jakarta and East Jakarta will be cloudy in the afternoon. At night, West Jakarta will have sunny skies.

The maximum temperature may reach 35 degrees Celsius, which is estimated to be in the West Jakarta area, with a maximum air humidity of 85 percent.

2. Jakarta Detects 5 More Monkeypox Cases in 2 Days, Intensifies Tracing

Acting Head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Ani Ruspitawati, said the agency found five more cases of monkeypox or mpox on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23-24. The new cases brought the total number of active confirmed cases to 12.

“There have been additional cases in the last two days, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 12 in 2023,” Ani said in a press statement, on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

According to her, the provincial government through the Health Agency continues to suppress disease transmission through various methods, such as socializing early detection and raising awareness of finding cases among health workers in all health facilities.

3. Indonesia Bags 3 Gold Medals at Asian Para Games; Climbs 2 Spots to 8th Position

Indonesia has moved up to eighth position in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games medal tally. Indonesia climbed up two spots from 10th place after winning three gold medals on Wednesday, October 25.

Today's three gold medals came from the para-athletics sport through Saptoyogo Purnomo in the T37 400-meter dash, his second gold in this year's Asian Para Games.

In blind judo, Roma Siska Tampubolon won gold in the over-70-kg event in the J1 classification. Siska, who was not a favorite in the sport, performed well against four judokas from other countries, winning all four matches.

Another golden surprise came from lawn bowls. Kacung Setiawan, who competed in the men's singles B2, beat Malaysia's Muhamad Ayub. Kacung was initially only targeted to win bronze.
