TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Syafrin Liputo, head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, said there will be no budget to add bicycle lanes in the 2024 regional budget draft. The reason, he said, is because the target for building bicycle lanes has been met.
"According to the RPD or Regional Development Plan 2023-2026, the target for building a bicycle lane is 298 kilometers in 2024," he said in a joint working meeting with Jakarta DPRD's Commission B on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Today, there are 301 kilometers of bicycle lanes available, exceeding the target. Therefore, in the 2024 regional budget, the Transportation Agency will only allocate a bicycle lane maintenance budget to ensure the safety aspects of cyclists.
The budget allocation of Rp7.5 billion in the 2023 APBD also does not include additional bicycle lanes. The allocation consists of Rp2 billion for the overall bicycle lane evaluation process, which he said has been carried out this year, and more than Rp5 billion for maintenance, which had also been carried out this year.
He said that there won't be any special budget to remove stick cones on a number of bicycle paths this year. Because, this activity is carried out by officers when monitoring traffic. "The stick cones will be replaced with cat's eye markings so that cyclists can still see the track at night," he said.
Syafrin also emphasized that the removal of stick cones carried out by his members was not an effort to eliminate bicycle lanes.
