TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman, Firli Bahuri, failed to appear for his first police summons over the alleged extortion case against former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Director of Special Crime Investigation Sr. Comr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak said Firli would be summoned again next week.
However, he could not yet confirm the exact date. “We will update [the information] next week, but what’s clear is that it (the second summon) is scheduled for next week,” Ade said at the police complex, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Ade recalled that the police issued the first summons on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, and it was scheduled for today at 2:00 p.m. Jakarta time.
The KPK’s Legal Bureau, however, submitted a letter this morning, requesting the postponement of Firli Bahuri's testimony. “Because it coincides with a scheduled official agenda,” Ade said.
The letter also said Firli needed more time to study the probe material. Therefore, the Metro Jaya Police will schedule a second summons next week. “We will send the letter today,” Ade said.
Firli Bahuri will be questioned as a witness in the alleged extortion case committed by the KPK leadership in 2022-2023 involving Syahrul Yasin Limpo, who was earlier arrested in the alleged corruption case in the Agriculture Ministry.
The Metro Jaya Police handled the case in cooperation with the National Police’s Corruption Crime Directorate. To date, the police have grilled 52 witnesses, including eight KPK officials.
