TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The term of office of Heru Budi Hartono as the Acting Governor of Jakarta has been extended until 2024. He promised to exert attempts to solve congestion, pollution, and waste in the capital city.
“The work is not finished yet, we are doing it out now,” Heru said at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 16, 2023.
He explained that the letter from the Minister of Home Affairs stated that his term of office would be extended from October 17, 2023, until a maximum of one year. His performance would continue to be evaluated by the Ministry of Home Affairs every three months.
“If the evaluation is not good, [the term] can be [terminated],” he added.
The Jakarta provincial government continues to implement myriad efforts to combat traffic congestion, such as readjusting traffic light times to reduce queue lengths and traffic delays, arranging on-street parking, and prioritizing pedestrian and bicycle rights.
Heru said the city was also coordinating with the central government or related stakeholders to integrate transport modes in an effort to encourage people to switch to public transportation.
Besides, the city administration is increasing the number of electric buses for public transportation to lessen air pollution.
