TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Head of the Jakarta Water Resource Office Ika Agustin Ningrum confirmed that they face various obstacles in the process of Ciliwung River normalization. One of the hurdles mentioned is the lack of legitimate land ownership rights.
"There are indeed works disrupted by regulations with legal consequences," Ika said as quoted from the official website of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) on Thursday. "We have to abide by the law, so it does not matter if it seems the project is proceeding slowly and lack socialization."
However, Ika reasoned, the office will meet with land owners to communicate and seek the best solution. "This is [the government's] responsibility to communicate the issues to the public," she said when asked to map the obstacles in the Ciliwung normalization program.
Jakarta DPRD's Commission on Development Jamaluddin Lamanda stated that he obtained the information on said obstacles including the halted land acquisition. The normalization process in the Ciliwung Cisadane River Area could only commence after the provincial government of Jakarta acquired the lands.
A similar notion was brought up by another Jakarta DPRD's Commission D member Judistira Hermawan. He hoped that the Water Resource Office could accelerate the land acquisition process to start the flood management priority program. "We want to ensure there are no obstacles," he said.
