Govt, AICC Discuss Indonesia-U.S. Trade Relations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga attended a meeting with the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (AICC) in New York.
"We have identified several measures to be taken together, including the measures to boost the penetration of Indonesian food and beverage products in the US. Especially in the Asian and Latin America market segment which has grown in population in the US, and the measures to safeguard the US' critical minerals issue," he said in a written statement received by Tempo today.
The meeting was part of a series of visits from September 30 to October 2, 2023. The President of AICC Wayne Forrest led the meeting. The meeting was conducted to welcome the 75th year of diplomatic relations between both countries next year.
In addition to the previously mentioned issues, Indonesia and AICC discussed various issues faced by the business sector and the opportunity to boost Indonesia-US trade.
"The United States of America is one of Indonesia's strategic trade partners in various sectors. There is still untapped potential from this relation," Jerry said. "Moving forward, this relation must be maintained and improved to provide more benefits for the general public."
As information, the total trade between Indonesia and the US during the January to July 2023 period amounted to US$20.15 billion. The exports from Indonesia amounted to US$13.44 billion, while the imports amounted to US$6.71 billion. The U.S. is Indonesia's 2nd biggest export destination.
