TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Karanganyar police resort Jerrold Hendra mentioned that the office continues to observe the Mount Lawu wildfire growth through the Sipongi and Lancang Kuning applications. "The application showed 6 hotspots at the Hargo Tiling area," Jerrold said on Tuesday.
Jerrold reported that the fire in Mount Lawu at Karanganyar Regency was spread by the fire engulfing Mount Lawu at Magentan and Ngawi. "Previously (Sunday, October 1) we have successfully extinguished the fire that was spread from Magetan," he said.
However, the wildfire that was ablaze at Ngawi was able to spread until Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar. "The fire entered Jenati District from Ngawi, and got bigger until it spread to Ngargoyoso," he added.
The fire extinguishing process at Mount Lawu involved 5 crews of volunteers. "And the task allocation has been coordinated [for each crew], after a roll call tomorrow morning, the team will observe and ensure a swift mitigation in the case of fire spreading," Jerrold said.
Even though the hiking route to Mount Lawu from Candi Cetho has been closed to the public since September 9, Jerold admitted locals are still conducting activities in the area. Jerold urged the locals to stay vigilant and careful not to do activities that may trigger a wildfire in the area.
"We urge the public through Polisi RW, district Babinsa, social media, and WhatsApp groups to remain cautious since the grass in the forest can be considered dry, and the fire spread at an unpredictable speed," he concluded.
