TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Parts of Indonesian regions, including Jakarta and its vicinity, will experience sweltering hot weather throughout October, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted.
“The hot weather will remain in October as bright, sunny skies will dominate the day,” the agency’s deputy for meteorology Guswanto said in a statement as quoted from the BMKG official website, on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
On this basis, the agency encouraged people to maintain their health and meet their body fluid needs, especially those who engage in outdoor activities. “In an effort to prevent dehydration, fatigue, and other adverse effects [of the hot weather],” he stressed.
Guswanto explained that the high temperature in Jakarta in the past week was caused by low cloud cover. This also occurred in most parts of Indonesia, especially from Java to Nusa Tenggara.
“The sun's rays reach the earth's surface without significant obstacles from clouds in the atmosphere during the day,” he added.
BMKG observed from September 22 to 29 that the air temperature in some regions was quite high between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius during the day. The air temperature in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi ranged from 35 to 37.5 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperature recorded in South Tangerang on September 29, 2023.
Most parts of Indonesia especially south of the equator, the agency went on, were still experiencing the dry season, while others were entering the transition period to the rainy season. “So sunny weather still dominates during the day,” it said.
At the end of last month, the sun's apparent position appeared to move towards the south of the equator, causing Java to Nusa Tenggara to receive more intense sunlight. “So the heat from sunlight is quite optimal in the morning before noon and during the day,” Guswanto concluded.
