TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy recorded that the potential loss caused by the fire in Bromo amounted to Rp89.76 billion. "Throughout the thirteen days of fire we have lost around Rp89,762,129,253 in total," said a Tourism and Creative Economy Senior Advisor of the ministry Nia Niscaya at The Weekly Brief event observed virtually on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Earlier on September 6, a fire broke out at the Teletubbies Hill caused by a flare used for a prewedding photograph session. The fire was successfully extinguished on September 14.
Nia explained further that there are four variables to calculate the potential loss in the fire. These are the number of visits or daily tourist quota, the ticket price or the type of tickets, the tourist's spending, and how long the national park was closed to the public.
"And there were two dimensions calculated by the ministry from these four variables. The first dimension was the potential loss for tickets and the second was the spending aspect," she said.
Nia mentioned that 121 million tickets are sold per day to access the Tengger Bromo Semeru National Park. Thus, 13 days of not selling the 121 million tickets caused a potential loss of Rp1.5 billion. Meanwhile, it was expected that the daily tourists' spending amounted to Rp6.7 billion. Thus, the total potential loss over 13 days is Rp89 billion.
"The potential loss in a day is around Rp6.9 billion in total. Thus, over 13 days, the potential loss for both tickets and spending amounting to Rp89.76 billion," she concluded.
