TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Information and Communication DG of the Communication and Informatics Ministry Usman Kansong informed the development measures to block access to bank accounts allegedly involved in online gambling activities.
"Based on reports, there are 1,931 bank accounts allegedly involved in online gambling," he said to Tempo on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Usman stated that the ministry has submitted 631 accounts to be blocked by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). " Around 201 accounts have been blocked. So, there are 430 accounts to be processed," he added.
Earlier on Sunday, OJK received a letter from the communication ministry to block a number of accounts allegedly involved in online gambling. OJK itself is authorized by the P2SK Law to order relevant banks to block certain accounts.
In addition to online gambling, accounts involving other negative activities such as online illegal loans, pornography, and radicalism are also tracked by the ministry.
The communication ministry also provided digital literation education, Usman stated. "The education has been conducted and will continue to be provided in an intensive manner," Usman said.
