1. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Plans Visit to Indonesia
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz planned a visit to Indonesia, said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi after meeting with the German delegation on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session in New York on Tuesday, September 19.
Retno could not yet confirm when the visit will take place as both parties are still making the preparations, including for the meeting of the two countries’ foreign ministers in Germany in November 2023.
“We are still discussing the time, but we have started preparing for the visit,” Retno said in the official statement released by the ministry in Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
2. 135 Chinese Nationals Extradited from Indonesia for 'Love Scamming'
The deportation of 153 Chinese nationals in Indonesia was caused by involvement in an online love scamming scheme. They were repatriated to China using a special plane departing from the Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam.
Riau Islands chief of regional police Tabana Bangun stated that the Chinese nationals were apprehended in a police operation from August to September 2023, conducted in Batam and Singkawang.
"The arrests were conducted in two phases. First in Cammo industrial area on August 29, 2023, and the second in Belakang Padang on September 5, 2023," he said in a press release on Wednesday.
3. Jokowi Calls for U-17 World Cup 2023 Support from Govt Officials
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo issued a Presidential Instruction addressed to government officials to support the U-17 World Cup 2023. The instruction was issued on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Jakarta.
The instructions were addressed to at least 33 government agencies, ministries, regional government, the military, and police. Among them are the Foreign Ministry, Coordinating Ministry for Human Resources and Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and Ministry of Youth and Sports. Regional government leaders were also mentioned in the instruction.
Jokowi instructed these parties to take coordinated and integrated measures in relation to their function to support FIFA's U-17 World Cup 2023 set to be held in Indonesia.
