TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The drought in Bekasi Regency is increasingly widespread. The regional government continues to send clean water to affected residents.
“The Bekasi government, through the BPBD (Disaster Mitigation Agency) and regional officials who are LO (Liaison Officers) as well as other stakeholders, will continue to distribute clean water to areas suffering drought,” Acting Bekasi Regent Dani Ramdan said in a written statement, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
As of Tuesday, September 19, at 7 p.m. local time, the Bekasi BPBD reported that the drought which previously hit 40 villages in nine sub-districts had spread to 46 villages in ten sub-districts.
They are Cibarusah, Serang Baru, Bojongmangu, Central Cikarang, Pebayuran, Cabangbungin, Sukawangi, Babelan, Tarumajaya, and Muaragembong sub-districts. At least 49,892 families or about 167,880 people are in need of clean water.
In addition, 21,250 hectares of agricultural land have been affected. The Bekasi government would continue to overcome the drought in agricultural land by helping farmers to irrigate their fields.
“For agricultural land, we are increasing water discharge, normalizing rivers, removing garbage, cleaning water gates, reducing water pumping support, and building long storage and standing crops," Dani said.
On Wednesday, September 13, Bekasi Acting Regent Dani Ramdan extended the drought emergency status for the next 14 days.
