TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia's (UI) Faculty of Engineering collaborates with Japan's Osaka University to boost research projects that may provide new innovations and findings that can help resolve problems at the global scale.

Dean of the UI Faculty of Engineering Professor Heri Hermansyah, on Friday, September 15, 2023, stated that Osaka University was selected to be a partner due to its strong academic and interdisciplinary research tradition.

To this end, he spoke of having signed a memorandum of understanding with Dean of Osaka University's School/Graduate School of Engineering Science Professor Shigeo Wada.

The MoU focuses on student and faculty exchanges that provide both students and lecturers of the two universities with opportunities to learn from one another.

For UI, the collaboration would help facilitate its faculty of engineering's teaching staff and researchers to visit Osaka University while its students would have opportunities to gain learning experience at Japan's reputable university, he stated.

"This will give our lecturers opportunities for teaching in a different academic environment, having new perspectives on teaching, and contributing to improving educational quality at the two universities," he remarked.

This academic staff exchange would also enhance deeper collaborations in research projects that may trigger innovations and produce new research findings that can give positive impacts at the global scale, he stated.

Collaborating with Osaka University, which is ranked 80th in QS World University Rankings 2024, reflected the UI Faculty of Engineering's concrete endeavor to globalize its education and research, he remarked.

Efforts to globalize education and research become more indispensable amid this changing and challenging era, and this can only be achieved through international collaborations between and among universities, he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Osaka University's School/Graduate School of Engineering Science Professor Shigeo Wada said collaborating with the UI Faculty of Engineering was a meaningful step.

Due to Osaka University's long-standing history of collaboration with UI and both universities' strong expertise and experiences in engineering science, this cooperation would yield a significant academic achievement, Wada stated.
