TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said in his speech to the G20 countries in India that there are three keys that determine the direction of global development, namely stability, solidarity, and equality.
In response to the global issues, Jokowi stated at the second session of the G20 Summit in New Delhi that the session’s theme ‘One Family’ should not be just jargon. “Rather, it's a mindset to determine the direction of the global development. We must all be responsible and ensure that all people in the world live in peace, stability, and prosperity,” he said as quoted from a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, September 10, 2023.
As chair of ASEAN 2023, Indonesia continued to promote ASEAN as an anchor of regional stability and support a culture of dialogue and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
He also called for an end to wars and hostilities through adherence to international law and the spirit of inclusive cooperation and multilateralism. As the premier forum for economic cooperation, the G20 is expected to promote solidarity as a spirit of cooperation among its members.
As global conditions are becoming more polarized, G20 must make efforts to end the dichotomy of north-south, developed-developing, and east-west. “The door for dialogue and cooperation must be open to all countries,” Jokowi stressed.
He also welcomed the admission of the African Union to the G20. Indonesia continues to push for broader regional representation in global governance.
He continued that the G20 must support the strengthening of developing countries' participation in global supply chains. An equal, inclusive, and fair cooperation ecosystem must be created to realize the right to development for all.
“G20 must promote the spirit of brotherhood and create a peaceful, just, and prosperous world,” Jokowi concluded.
