ICW: 'Govt Closes Track Records of 10 Acting Governors Being Appointed'

4 September 2023 23:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs declined to disclose documents on the selection of candidates for acting regional heads, including their track records.

Agus Sunaryanto, the ICW coordinator, said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian remained defiant in carrying out the constitutional mandate and decisions of the Central Information Commission (KIP) ahead of the inauguration of 10 acting governors on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

“The Central Information Commission (KIP) had stated that legal documents and information related to the appointment of acting regional heads must be open to the public,” Agus said in a written statement on Monday, September 4, 2023, as quoted from the ICW website.

On August 22, ICW received a number of documents delivered directly by the ministry’s representatives following the KIP’s decision Number 007/I/KIP-PS-A/2023.

Agus explained that the letter Number 000.9.3.4/4478/SJ signed by Suhajar Diantoro as the chief of the Home Affairs Ministry’s Information and Documentation Management (PPID) stated that the ministry supported the public disclosure of information, while in fact the claim was not proven.

“The ministry is still arguing to close access to the documents and information requested by ICW,” he said.

As widely reported, Home Affairs Minister Tito planned to inaugurate ten acting governors on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. They include Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Bey T Machmuddin for West Java; Commissioner General (Ret.) Nana Sudjana for Central Java; Major General (Ret.) Hassanudin for North Sumatra; Home Affairs Minister’s Special Staff for Security and Law, Inspector General. Drs. Sang Made Mahendra Jaya for Bali; and Papua Province Secretary Ridwan Rudalamun for Papua.

The others are Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ayodhia Kalake for East Nusa Tenggara; NTB Secretary Lalu Gita Ariadi for West Nusa Tenggara; West Kalimantan Secretary Harrison Azroi for West Kalimantan; Secretary General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Commissioner General Andap Budhi Revianto for Southeast Sulawesi; and Director General of Politics of the Home Affairs Ministry Bachtiar Baharuddin for South Sulawesi.
