Jakpro to Replace JIS Grass Field Ahead of FIFA U-17 World Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) was committed to replacing the grass field at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) as recommended by the International Football Federation (FIFA) ahead of the U-17 World Cup on November 10 – December 2, 2023.

“The grass field is completely replaced with the new one according to FIFA standards,” Jakpro expert staffer Wisnu Wardhana said in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 29, as quoted from Antara.

Wisnu explained that the demolition of the old grass was part of efforts to improve the stadium's facilities. In addition, Jakarta Bina Marga was determined to repair roads around the country’s largest stadium to provide easy and smooth access.

“The whole process of replacing the grass is underway. We have conducted various studies with other types of grass in several places,” he added, attaching videos and photos of the improvement project.

Previously, Jakpro said the project would not be funded using the Regional Capital Investment (PMD) from the 2023 Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD). “We are not using PMD, but Jakpro funds,” said Jakpro Director Iwan Takwin on Wednesday, August 16.

Iwan stressed that the grass replacement and all preparations for the U-17 World Cup in JIS would be done using internal financial sources. He said the company had budgeted funds for the development of the facility. However, he stopped short of revealing the detailed budget.
