TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government and the Jakarta Metro Police have been teaming up for the past few days to sprinkle water on the roads and parks in Jakarta to reduce the accumulation of dust as the effects of air pollution.
The Head of Green Track of the Jakarta Park and Urban Forest Office Herlinda Merinda says that the office continues to sprinkle water on plants located on the Jakartan roads or public facilities.
"The provincial government of Jakarta strives to continue ensuring that the plant and tree ecosystem in the capital could still grow amid the El Nino-induced drought," said Herlina in a written statement on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
Herlina said that her office is collaborating with the wastewater treatment company to supply the required processed wastewater to sprinkle the plants.
"Thus, the water for plant sprinklers is not smelly," she said. "We hope the plant sprinkling using processed wastewater will maintain the plant's fertility to develop and produce oxygen for the public."
The office deployed 10 water wagon units to sprinkle plants around the Merdeka Palace, West Medan Merdeka road, and Senayan roundabout.
In addition to plants, the Home Affairs Minister's Instruction mentioned road sprinkling as one of the measures to mitigate air pollution.
On Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023, the municipal police and Transporation Office, the Metro Jaya regional police, and other relevant agencies sprinkled water on both sides of Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan MH Thamrin, and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman. The team was led by the Chief of the municipal police, Arifin.
