TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo planned to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Kenya William Ruto on the second day of his work visit to the country on Monday, August 21, 2023.

In the morning, the President was scheduled to attend the welcome ceremony at the Kenyan State House. “The series of state receptions will end with a state lunch,” as stated in a press release from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau, Monday, August 21, 2023.

The President would then go to the mausoleum of Kenya's founding father Jomo Kenyatta to lay wreaths at the heroes' tomb and visit Dagoretti to symbolically hand over a grant of a cooking oil pumping machine and five thousand liters of palm oil.

During his working visit to Kenya, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif.

Jokowi will take part in BRICS Summit

The visit to Kenya is part of the President’s schedule to attend the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa. BRICS is an alliance comprising developing countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

“Indonesia is invited to the BRICS summit. And of course, bilateral meetings with various state leaders will be held in between the summit,” Jokowi said.

Apart from his visit to Kenya, Jokowi would also tour three other countries, namely South Africa, Tanzania, and Mozambique. The trip marked his first-ever presidential visit to the African regions. “The entourage and I will return to Indonesia on August 25,” he said.
