TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Gunungkidul Regency is developing a fishery port (PPI) in Gesing Beach, Panggang District, in a bid to lure tourists who love fishing and traveling to Yogyakarta beaches. With the concept of a tourism fishing port, the area is targeted to be opened this year.
“The budget for the construction of PPI Gesing Beach amounts to Rp109 billion, which comes from Yogyakarta’s special funds,” Yogyakarta Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency official, Catur Nur Amin, said on Monday, July 31, 2023.
The Yogyakarta government was still completing road access, supporting buildings, and creating boat entry lanes on the beach, which is situated 40 kilometers from the center of Yogya and close to Pundong, Gragak, Ngupload, Kesirat, and Wohkudu beaches.
Amin claimed there were a number of challenges to realizing the port on the clean white sandy beach which eventually delayed the operational target from 2022 to the end of October 2023.
Head of the Yogyakarta Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency, Bayu Mukti Sasongko said that the Gesing fishery port will be able to accommodate 40 lifeboats (10-30 GT) and 100 outboard motor boats. The production capacity for the motor boats is projected to be 1,600 tons per year, while the 10-30 GT boats are 4,320 tons per year.
