Jokowi Vows of Indonesia's Steady Investment to Chinese Investors

28 July 2023 22:45 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo engaged in a business meeting with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in China Region (INACHAM) and a number of Chinese businessmen at the Chengdu Shangri-La Hotel, China, on Friday, July 28, 2023.

During the meeting, he emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to keeping investment steady and running well, asking investors not to hesitate to convey any obstacles they encounter related to investment in the archipelago.

“I hope that if there are problems regarding either land acquisition or permits, please relay them,” he said before Chinese investors.

He also said that the Indonesian government is open to accommodating all issues to seek resolutions. “We will collect all the information, and we will handle it,” he added.

The Head of State further mentioned investment priorities being worked on by the government, including the electric vehicle ecosystem, new renewable energy, and the development project of the new capital city or IKN.

“I see that some [of the investors] here have penetrated [to Indonesia] to build an electric vehicle ecosystem that we want to develop in the future,” Jokowi said.

Indonesia is eager to encourage Chinese investors to participate in the country’s new and renewable energy projects, he informed. “I think this is a very good opportunity for the future green energy, the products will be green (environmentally friendly), and that can be premium products.”

During the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, and KADIN Chairman Arsjad Rasjid.
