TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Management Authority (BBWSCC) head Bambang Heri Mulyono assessed that damage to the Cisadane Water Gate 10 in Tangerang was caused by their worn rubber seals leading to the leak.
“The rubber seal is damaged because it is already old,” Bambang said to Tempo on Monday, July 24, 2023.
He did not disclose when the rubber seals of the sluice gate were last replaced. However, he emphasized that routine maintenance continued to be performed periodically every year. “Such as applying lubricant to re-painting,” he added.
Due to the old floodgates, Bambang argued that routine maintenance is not enough and complete repairs must be carried out. “It’s already old enough. So there must be repairs and checking spare parts regularly.”
The Cisadane Water Gate 10 or Pasar Baru Dam which is built during the Dutch colonial period has 10 doors to close and open the dam. Four doors, viz. doors 2, 6, 7, and 10 were damaged and caused a leak this past week. The worst leaks occurred at doors 2 and 6.
According to Bambang, the rubber seals of all 10 floodgates have worn out. “Based on direct visual observation, the rubber seals must be replaced. All doors must be repaired permanently,” he said.
However, the budget for repairing all Cisadane water gates is extremely high. “The rubber seal alone is quite expensive,” Bambang concluded.
