TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brantas Train from Jakarta-Blitar route hit a trailer truck on the crossing of Madukoro Street of West Semarang tonight, Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
The locomotive hit the head of the truck and caused explosion. The truck was heading to the south from the north. After the collision, the head and tail of the truck was stuck in the Semarang West Flood Canal Bridge.
Meanwhile, the combined forces of the police and Indonesian Railways Company (KAI) officers are trying to evacuate the locomotives and truck from the bridge. The Head of Metropolitan Police of Semarang Chief Commissioner of Police Irwan Anwar said that the locomotives and the head of the truck is currently stuck at the Semarang West Flood Canal Bridge which located at the east of the rail crossing. "We will move the locomotives and truck from the bridge," Irwan said. The rest of the train locomotives will be pulled to the west towards Jerakah Station.
He explained that early information from a witness reported that the collision happened because the truck was unable to move while crossing the rail. The drivers have asked for help, but it was too late. "The truck suddenly stopped, unable to move across the rail," he said.
Furthermore, the Head of Operational Area IV Semarang Wisnu Pramudyo said that the train will pulled back towards Jerakah Station while waiting for the routes to clear before continuing the train's journey. "As for the passengers, they are offered to continue their trip using other transportation modes, we will provide it," he said.
