Pertamina International Shipping Purchases Tanker; Global Expansion Optimization

18 July 2023 00:47 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) purchased a medium-range tanker for US$32.5 million to optimize its business expansion in the global market. CEO of PIS Yoki Firnandi said that the vessel purchase is one of PIS' investment strategies to increase its market share, especially abroad.

"The medium-range tanker with 40,000 oil capacity is named PIS Sumatera. The utilization of Indonesia's island name is intended to promote Indonesia's islands during PIS' sail in foreign waters," said Yoki in his statement on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, the vessel purchase agreement was signed by the Managing Director of PIS Asia Pacific Muhammad Reza, and Asset Management Director Scorpio Tanker Inc Demetris Nenes in Singapore, Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

PIS Sumatera has the capability to carry chemical cargo and clean product petroleum. The newly-purchased vessel is delivered to PIS Asia Pacific, PIS' subsidiaries, to be operated and commercialized.

The vessel is given to PIS Asia Pacific in order to develop its non-captive international market since PIS Asia Pacific is experienced in commercializing PIS' vessels, namely Pertamina Pride and Pertamina Prime, PIS Polaris, PIS Paragon, and others. "With a more mature business approach, PIS will strive to develop its business to realize its vision of becoming Asia's prime marine logistics company and drive Indonesia's economic growth," said Yoki.
