TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States Geological Survey (UgeloSGS) stated in it is report that Indonesia is the world's largest nickel producer in 2022 with reserves totaling volume at 21 million metric tons (mt), beating Australia's 19 million (mt).
The report said that global nickel production at mines reached 3.3 million mt in 2022, up 20.88% from 2021's 2.73 million mt. Indonesia accounted for 48.48% or 1.6 million mt to the planet's nickel output that year.
According to mining-technology.com, GlobalData recorded Indonesia's nickel output grew 13 percent in 2021. They estimate the volume to keep growing by a rate of 4% per year between 2022 and 2026.
There are currently four prominent mining companies that manage Indonesia's nickel resources: Sumitomo Metal Mining, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, PT Antam (Persero) Tbk., and Eramet.
