TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The trial run for Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek will commence today simultaneously with the soft launching event. The people who already signed up for the trial run will enjoy the train's facility for the first time today until August 15, 2023.
"Fare is only Rp1," as written in the e-poster explaining the soft launch event uploaded by the official Instagram account @lrt_jabodebek.
The trial run is conducted to ensure LRT Jabodebek is ready for commercial operation on August 18, 2023. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi accompanied by the Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono had previously boarded the train on a trial run on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. The two began their trip at Dukuh Atas LRT Station, Jakarta, and stopped by Jatimulya Station, Bekasi, to observe the railway yard. The trip ended at Halim Station.
Heru Budi is certain that LRT Jabodebek will reduce traffic congestion in Jakarta. With LRT, the volume of private vehicles entering Jakarta will decrease. "This will automatically reduce traffic congestion. People could use LRT to Dukuh Atas and vice versa, from Dukuh Atas to Bekasi and Sukaraja," he said at Halim LRT Station on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
Subsequently, Budi Karya explained that it only takes 39 minutes to go from Dukuh Atas Station to Jatimulya Station on a single train trip. "Meaning, compared to a normal trip, even through a toll road, will take 2 hours. So it cuts down a third of the length. It's a significant number," he said.
According to Budi, LRT Jabodebek will board around 500,000 passengers daily. Meaning, combined KRL and LRT Jabodebek passengers daily are around 1.7 million people. This is approaching 50% of the daily passenger in Jakarta. The people who will participate in the trial run today may board from 3 stations; Dukuh Atas Station, Jatimulya Station, and Harjamukti Station.
