Govt Sets Up Public Safety Center to Support Yogyakarta Earthquake victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry has set up Public Safety Center (PSC) 119 to assist people affected by the latest earthquake in Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunung Kidul districts of Yogyakarta.
In a statement received on Saturday, Head of the Communication and Public Services Bureau of the ministry, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, informed that the ministry and the local Health Office have prepared personnel and medical facilities near the locations affected by the disaster.
"The injured victims, as of 11 p.m. Friday, June 30, in Bantul District there were four people, in Gunung Kidul District there were two people, Sleman District there were two people, and one more passed away because they were shocked and fell from the bed during the earthquake," Tarmizi said.
All the injured have been treated, she informed adding, the supply of medicines and other medical facilities are sufficient to handle any cases.
"The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) is ready to be dispatched to the location of the earthquake in case they are needed. The PSC post in Yogyakarta can be contacted through 119 or (0274) 2924-233 and WhatsApp at 0811-2837-505," she said.
According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that shook the island originated in the sea, 68 kilometers southwest of Bantul.
The earthquake caused some houses to lose their roofing and damaged walls.
Homes in Gunung Kidul district also sustained similar damage.
In Kulon Progo, the disaster damaged the walls of Rizki Amalia Lendah Hospital. There were no victims, and the patients were safe and sound.
In total, there were 17 sites where damage to infrastructure was recorded, comprising homes, government facilities, medical facilities, and educational institutions.
The agency also recorded follow-up earthquakes measuring 4.5 magnitude at 8:40 p.m. local time.
The agency appealed to people to stay away from damaged buildings and ensure that their homes are sturdy enough to withstand earthquakes.
