TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X stated that he would ready disaster relief funding following the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that rattled the province on Friday (June 30) evening at 7:57 p.m. local time.

At the governor's office, Kepatihan Complex, here on Saturday, the governor said regional authorities could first utilize their emergency funds for disaster relief in respective regions.

"If the funds are lacking, we will assist," the sultan affirmed.

According to the governor, each district in Yogyakarta has an emergency fund in their budget allocation, albeit in different amounts.

While Bantul District's emergency fund reaches Rp14 billion (US$938,000), Gunung Kidul District has been allocated Rp5 billion (US$335,000), he noted.

The governor said he was informed that structural damages reported due to the Friday earthquake were all minor in nature.

"All damages are relatively minor. However, most damages were recorded in Gunung Kidul," he stated.

Meanwhile, according to latest data from the Yogyakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), 172 structures were damaged by the earthquake in the province's Gunung Kidul, Kulon Progo, Bantul, and Sleman districts.

"The total (number of structures damaged by the quake) in the Yogyakarta Special Region is 172 units," the regional agency's caretaker head, Danang Samsurizal, remarked.

He explained that of the 172 damaged structures, 133 houses suffered minor damages, while four houses incurred moderate damages.

Moreover, structural damages of various intensities were also reported at 14 office buildings, five places of worship, two business establishments, one healthcare facility, three educational facilities, and three livestock pens.

"Minor damages also occur at three power grid units, one power pole, and three public facilities," Samsurizal remarked.

The earthquake's epicentre was located 86 kilometres southwest of Bantul District, Yogyakarta, in the Indian Ocean. Apart from Yogyakarta, the earthquake was also felt by residents in the neighbouring province of Central Java.
