TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is set to hold the food bazaar or GPM simultaneously in 342 areas throughout Indonesia. The agency head Arief Prasetyo said this is aimed at maintaining the availability of staple foods and people's purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Adha.
“The GPM allows people to get quality basic food needs at affordable prices to meet their daily consumption or preparation for Eid,” Arief said when met at the Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta on Monday, June 27, 2023.
GPM is organized by Bapanas in tandem with related ministries and institutions, such as the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Agriculture, Bank Indonesia, Regional Governments, SOEs, ROEs, corporations, and associations.
Arief said the program is also aimed at anticipating spikes in public demand and consumption and controlling national inflation. As of May 2023, the inflation rate was at 4.00 year on year.
Suppliers of staple goods in the program are State Logistics Agency (BULOG) and state-owned staple food holding company ID FOOD, as well as regional firms, associations, cooperatives, farmer groups (Gapoktan), and other local business actors.
Arief said the basic commodities include rice, chicken eggs, chilies, shallots, garlic, chicken, beef, sugar, cooking oil, vegetables, and fruits. The prices of all products are below market prices or do not exceed the stipulated Purchase/Sale Reference Prices (HAP) and Highest Retail Prices (HET).
The Bapanas head also appealed to the public not to worry or panic and to shop wisely. He ensured that food stocks are available and sufficient to meet the needs.
