Indonesia Optimistic Coldplay's 6-Day Singapore Shows Will Benefit Batam, Bintan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry stays optimistic that Coldplay’s 6-day concert in Singapore will bring positive impacts on the country's tourism economy, especially in Batam and Bintan of Riau Islands.
The Ministry’s Deputy for Strategic Policy, Nia Niscaya, said Indonesian business actors could offer accommodation or post events. “Singapore is close to Batam and Bintan destinations. Our accommodation, food, and drink are more competitive,” Nia said in a virtual press conference on Monday, June 26, 2023.
According to her, there are also a lot of accesses from Singapore to the two cities. One of them is by ship. Thus, the British pop band’s show is an opportunity for Indonesia to offer vacation packages after the event, “or during the event as [concertgoers] can stay in Batam-Bintan,” Nia added.
The Ministry’s Deputy for Creative Products and Activities Organizer, Vinsenius Jemadu, said that the ministry is working to develop cross-border tourism programs in Batam and Bintan. “I think this is one thing that can provide and facilitate spectators. So that not all expenses go to Singapore, but also to Indonesia,” Vinsen said.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno previously said that the Coldplay six-day concert in the neighboring country must be deemed as an opportunity, so the ministry is working on making tour packages in Batam and Bintan.
Coldplay will be performing for six days at the Singapore National Stadium from January 23-24, January 67-27, and January 30-31, 2024, after the promoter Live Nation announced two new shows following overwhelming demand.
