TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo today, June 26, conducted an impromptu visit or blusukan to Palmerah Market in Central Jakarta. During the agenda, he was accompanied by Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono and a foreign man who was later found to be foreign reporters from German media.
He arrived at the traditional market using an RI 1 car escorted by a number of Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) members. Upon getting out of the car, he was immediately greeted by foreign journalists who were waiting in front of the gate.
“Pak Jokowi! Pak Jokowi!” the crowds shouted welcoming the arrival of their nation’s leader.
Jokowi distributed cash aid in envelopes to traders. Along the way around the market, he was seen accompanied by foreign journalists.
On several occasions, he seemed to have conversations in English with the journalists during the market tour.
Jokowi spent around 30 minutes in Palmerah Market. After distributing social assistance and meeting with traders, he and the entourage left the location.
