TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said that the celebration of the city’s 496th anniversary is a special moment as this is the last Jakarta anniversary as the capital.
“We celebrate a very special moment, the anniversary of Jakarta as the capital of the Republic of Indonesia for the last time,” Heru said in his speech at Taman Ismail Marzuki Theater, Central Jakarta, on Thursday evening, June 22, 2023.
Heru watched a comedy-drama show titled Melankolia Metropolitan last night, which was one of a series of celebrations for the city’s anniversary.
Comedians participating in the show were Ernest Prakasa, Soleh Solihun, Arie Kriting, Ge Pamungkas, Priska Baru Segu, Muhadkly Acho, Kristo Immanuel, Bene Dion, Aci Resti, David Nurbianto, and Ardit Erwandha.
The one-hour drama reflects on Jakarta as a multi-ethnic, religious, and cultural city, as well as a region that welcomes people from other areas who want to visit and reside to try their luck.
The show, Heru said, made him reminisce about the long history of Jakarta. The former mayor of North Jakarta explained that the capital has a lot of valuable stories and experiences. There have been many changes and improvements in Jakarta, starting from the name to the development.
“Who still remembers opelet as a transportation mode in the past? Now, we have a comfortable and integrated mode of public transportation under the JakLingko system, namely Transjakarta, LRT Jakarta, and MRT Jakarta,” he said.
Heru Budi considered this experience as a lesson for the government to manage the new capital or IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan. He believed that Jakarta will keep transforming into a global city that is livable and resilient.
