TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Traffic Police (Korlantas) announced that it will reconsider some of the driving license tests considered difficult by many; the zig-zag and ‘number 8 symbol’ obstacle course tests. An evaluation is set in place following a direct order from National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
As previously reported, the police chief called for an end to difficult procedures in a driver’s license-making process but without sacrificing the driving safety aspect. This is said to encourage road users in obtaining legal driving requirements.
“We will study and enact what the Police Chief said. We will evaluate our practical tests especially the zig-zag and ‘number 8’ tests and consider whether those two are still relevant today,” said Traffic Police Corps official Gen. Yusri Yunus as published by the NTMC Police website on June 23.
He elaborated that the current tests have been previously evaluated and that the procedures are set in place as an element to determine a road user’s legitimacy, competence, and skills prior to legally operating any type of vehicle on roads.
Yunus said that the series of driving tests are set in place in the wake of data on Indonesia’s road accident statistics. He insisted that the driving license tests will be reevaluated but without sacrificing the safety aspect and competence that a road user must hone.
