TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) deputy chair Zainudin Amali said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to attend the FIFA Matchday between the national teams of Indonesia and Argentina at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Jakarta.
The highly-anticipated friendly match is scheduled to take place later tonight (6/19) at 7:30 PM local time.
“The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo will watch the game live. It has been confirmed,” said Amali after launching the new bus for the Indonesian national football team at the Garuda Store in the stadium’s complex on Sunday.
Apart from confirming that the President’s security detail will remain in full force, he called for fans to arrive at the venue early.
Indonesian team coach Shin Tae-Yong assured fans that renowned players in the Garuda squad will be mobilized for this event such as Dimas Drajad, Asnawi Mangkualam, Arhan Pratama, and Marc Klok. Only Sandy Walsh as defender will be absent due to injuries he sustained in training at Surabaya last week.
Meanwhile, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has decided to grant vacation time to senior players such as team captain Lionel Messi, winger Angel Di Maria, and defender Nicolas Otamendi. Young potential players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Julian Alvarez, and Enzo Fernandez will take their place in tonight’s event.
