Indonesian Singer Putri Ariani Gets Golden Buzzer on America's Got Talent
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian blind singer Putri Ariani stuns four judges and the audience with her angelic voice on America's Got Talent season 18. The 17-year-old hijabi showcases exceptional vocal abilities that made the judge and show creator Simon Cowell smashes his Golden Buzzer for her.
“I always dreamed of being on America’s Got Talent since I was little,” Putri said in her pre-performance package. “I will sing and play a piano,” she told host Terry Crews.
Putri performs her original song in the audition on Tuesday, June 6, titled Loneliness that is released a month ago. Simon Cowell races to the stage post-performance and asks her to sing a second song.
She then dedicates “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” by Elton John and Blue to Simon. “The song is special for you, Simon,” Putri said.
The judges and the audience are left speechless and break into standing applause as she ends the second performance with her soulful and powerful voice.
“We are all mesmerized by you, your voice. You're an angel,” said judge Sofia Vergara. “A lot of people don’t believe in angels and I think one just landed on our stage. You are a superstar,” said another judge Howie Mandel.
“You're 17. You write songs. You've got an amazing distinctive voice. And I mean really, really good. You have kind of a glow about you,” Simon added.
Putri mentions that she dreams of going to Juilliard in New York, one of the world’s most prestigious performing arts schools. Simon then hits his Golden Buzzer button, sending her straight to the live shows slated to be held in Theater Dolby Hollywood. “She’s brilliant,” he said.
Everyone cheers and loudly gives applause. “You are, I think, one of the best singers we've ever had on our show,” Simon told Putri in her ear when he took the stage to congratulate her. Tears streamed down Putri’s face.
