Jakarta Police Arrest Couple over Coldplay Online Ticket Scams

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police arrested a couple, ABF (22) and W (24), for selling fake and non-existent Coldplay concert tickets online. The British band is slated to perform in Jakarta on November 15, 2023.
Director of the Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Unit Sr. Comr. Auliansyah Lubis explained that they bought a Twitter account and a website, @findtrove_id, to swindle money from unwary fans.
“The perpetrators opened a website named findtrove_id, which they bought from Twitter. So, they bought it from someone. They chose this website because it already has a lot of followers,” Auliansyah said in a press conference at Jakarta Police HQ on Monday, May 22, 2023.
The Police’s Cybercrime Sub-Directorate received a report from a victim, ANFP, regarding the alleged fraud of the concert tickets on May 19, 2023.
Auliansyah explained that the swindlers opened jastip (jasa titip) or buying service with a deposit of Rp50,000. The would-be concertgoers are then directed to make the payment along with the service fee.
They attracted potential buyers by posting fictitious testimonials or comments praising the good service and the example of an official ticket that does not exist or is fake.
“There are approximately 60 victims who file a report to us and we have traced them and found that their bank savings amount to Rp257 million. That is the temporary result of the investigation,” Auliansyah said.
The police arrested the two scammers of Coldplay tickets at Rogocolo RT 009, Tirtonimolo Village, Kasihan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. They would be charged with Article 28 (1) in conjunction with Article 45A (1) of Law No. 19/2016 on the amendments to Law No. 11/2008 on electronic information and transactions or ITE Law and Article 378 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 372 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 3, Article 4, Article 5 of Law No. 8/2010 on money laundering.
